What level of cover do I need?
The first question that most event organisers need to ask is “Do I need professional first aid cover?”
The answer, if the event is very small scale and low risk, is possibly not - a person holding the three day First Aid at Work qualification and having a basic first aid kit may suffice.
There are many variables involved in ascertaining the level of cover required. Essentially you need a Risk Assessment and matching cover. Variables to take into account include:
• numbers attending
• location, indoors or outdoors
• whether overnight cover is required for multi-day events
• the group/age profile
• whether alcohol is available
• the time of year
• whether visitors are seated, standing or mobile
• where the nearest hospital is
• the past history of incidents if your event has been run before etc.
As a very rough rule of thumb think about 1 First Aid Responder per 500 attending. The definitive guide is a publication called the Purple Guide, a subscription is required. There is a link below:

Our First Aiders
All of our first responders hold higher level pre-hospital care qualifications and all have many years of experience of providing cover on a professional basis. FREC3 level of equipment is provided - think paramedic rucksack level and an AED (defibrillator) and medical grade oxygen cover is included as standard.
Our first responders hold at least one of the following:
